The MK5 Supra Eventuri inlet has been developed to offer the turbo a less restrictive flow path while the inlet temperatures remain low. Heat and volume are the most important considerations when designing an inlet for turbo engines. In the Supra, the intake system is located next to the exhaust manifold, causing the engine compartment to heat up quickly. High temperatures are damaging to engine performance, as the turbo should build up a boost with heated, less dense air and so the only way to minimize IATs is for a fully sealed inlet. However, this results in a limitation with only one supply air supply to suck in air. During the development, we saw an extra opening in the area of the wheel arch and benefited from this by adding a secondary feed to our airbox. Furthermore, our sealed airbox also has a heat shield with gold reflective to minimize the radiant heat transfer from the exhaust manifold. To maximize the volume, we have made the airbox as large as possible with a recess for possible struts. The standard intricate inlet tube is replaced by a smooth carbon tube that also has a larger internal volume with a starting diameter of 111 mm (4.4 ″) that gradually tapers to the turbo inlet. The tube offers a smooth path from the filter to the turbo inlet. Finally, we use a custom-made high-flow drying filter that is ISO-tested for filter performance and has a larger filter surface than the stock filter.
