The BMW G20 B48 Eventuri intake was developed to give the turbo a less restrictive flow path while maintaining low intake temperatures. Heat and volume are the most important considerations when designing an intake for turbo engines.

In the G20, the intake system is located next to the exhaust manifold, causing the engine bay to heat up quickly. High temperatures are detrimental to engine performance because the turbo would have to build up boost using heated, less dense air; therefore, the only way to ensure that IATs are kept to a minimum is a fully enclosed intake. However, this results in a limitation with only one air intake supply from which air can be drawn. During development, we noticed an extra opening in the wheel well and took advantage of this by adding a secondary intake to our airbox. Furthermore, our sealed airbox also features a gold-reflective heat shield to minimize radiant heat transfer from the exhaust manifold.

To maximize volume, we have made the airbox as large as possible with a cutout for potential strut brackets. The standard convoluted intake pipe has been replaced by a smooth carbon fiber tube that is also larger in internal volume, with a starting inner diameter of 111 mm (4.4″), which gradually narrows towards the turbo intake. The tube ensures a smooth path from the filter to the turbo intake. Finally, we use a custom-made high-flow dry filter that is ISO-tested for filtration performance and has a larger filter surface area than the standard filter.
