    Product description

The perfect complement to Fabspeed's GT4 exhaust upgrades, this high-performance intake plenum from Innovative Pro Design and the upgraded 82mm throttle body deliver significant power gains by increasing the efficiency and flow of the engine's air intake system.

    CHARACTERISTICS:

After a very extensive R&D program we are proud to launch the new GT4 IPD 82mm Competition Plenums, specially designed to work perfectly with the improved 82mm throttle body. This combination has proven to be extremely effective, delivering even more performance than either component alone.

The GT4 intake is almost identical to the 987.2 & 981 intake. Porsche made a few upgrades with the 981 and GT4, most notably that the GT4 draws outside air through both driver and passenger air intakes instead of just the driver's side as previously found on all 986, 987 and 987.2 applications. IPD has developed a custom silicone hose that fits perfectly on the larger 82mm throttle body and significantly improves airflow.

The new GT4 Plenum also benefits from the internal dimple effect that we are now applying to all future plenums. These internal dimples allow us to control the boundary layer and maximize airflow. Just like a dimpled golf ball travels further than a smooth golf ball. Controlled turbulent air creates less friction and "tumbles" over a given area more efficiently.

The power gain with the GT4 Competition Plenum is virtually the same as with the 981 Competition Plenum, dropping 17 horsepower and 11 foot pounds of torque at the wheels. Most of the IPD Plenum's power gains start at around 4000 rpm, continue all the way to redline, and are fully realized in the 6000 rpm range. IPD's performance gains remain above both factory power curves throughout the rev range.

Superior and more efficient design over the factory recording.

The IPD plenums are efficient products that simply improve intake airflow and increase air velocity. The "Y" shape design and interior dimples allow the airflow to be more laminar (less turbulent), significantly improving power and torque across the entire RPM band. Smoother, more optimized intake airflow will improve the performance of all engines. The more efficiently an engine breathes, the more efficiently it produces power.

Deliver impressive power gains regardless of changes.

The superior design of the IPD plenums optimize flow and increase air velocity. Period of time! This applies to any Porsche engine producing any power level. The patented "Y" design delivers impressive performance gains for both bone-stock and highly modified Porsches. The more efficient design of the IPD Plenum will always outperform the factory air distributor. The factory intake will become even more detrimental to performance as you increase the horsepower and torque. The greater the power, the better the IPD Plenum performs.

Realize significant gains for both turbo and NA applications.

The plenums always provide significant benefits for both turbocharged and naturally aspirated engines. It is a fact that the Turbo Plenums produce more power than the NA Plenums. But the turbo engines also produce more power. The fact is that the percentage gain of the different Plenum applications is actually almost identical, about 8-10%, depending on the specific model.

Aluminum plenums run cooler and are not affected by heat radiation.

The aluminum plenums do NOT experience heat build-up under driving or racing conditions. It is true that aluminum has a higher thermal conductivity than plastic. In fact, aluminum is 650 times more thermally conductive than plastic and has a specific heat capacity 550 times higher than plastic. This means that the aluminum Plenum dissipates the energy it is exposed to 656 times faster than the plastic and can store more than 550 times the amount of energy per unit mass. In short, aluminum can absorb more heat than plastic, but it also takes significantly more energy to heat up and it loses that energy much faster than the aluminum, keeping the IPD Plenum cooler from the outside air under driving conditions, ultimately improving engine performance. about plastic. And why would Porsche use aluminum intakes on GT3s, GT2s, Cup Cars and Cup Rs?

    ECU Performance Software recommended.

The 981s will likely, but not guaranteed, experience a CEL due to increased airflow after installing the IPD plenum and larger 82mm GT3 throttle body. Unlike the previous generation of Porsches that used a MAF (Mass Air Flow) measuring device, the new 981s use a MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor-based intake system. As a result, the factory airflow charts are much stricter (lower) and the ECU is much better able to introduce additional air into the intact duct.

Assuming the installation is done perfectly, it appears that approximately half of all 981 applications (non-S, S, GTS, Spyder and GT4) will still require a throttle body adjustment after installing the IPD Plenum and 82 mm GT3 TB. This procedure can ONLY be performed with a factory Porsche PIWIS computer. Once the TB adjustment is made, you "should" be CEL-free.

But occasionally some of the 981 applications will continue to experience a CEL related to the ECU reading intake air flow levels that exceed the thresholds programmed into the ECU's firmware, eventually causing one of the following trouble codes (P0068, P1095 or P1074) . If a CEL continues, we strongly recommend overhauling the ECU or having a qualified Porsche ECU tuner turn off or isolate and increase the airflow levels in the ECU's tables in addition to the IPD Competition Plenum, larger TB and additional intake airflow provided by the IPD upgrade.

Note: These CELs do NOT affect the performance or reliability of a 981, it is just the ECU letting you know that the intake duct is flowing more air than the car is programmed for, and that is exactly what the IPD Plenum is designed to reach. This is how the performance gain is achieved.
